6th grade assignments
Elements of art art paper
divide your paper into 7 spaces...you can create geometrical or organic shapes.
in each space, label the elements of art (see previous pages for elements of art).
After you've labled them, you are going to illustrate examples of that element. Include at least three examples for each and fill in the space.

Radial balance assignment...
Take a square piece of paper and fold it into a triangle three times. Make sure it is neatly done.
In every other triangle write a word about something that you like. Make sure the letters touch the edges of the triangle.
In the other spaces you are going to draw simplistic patterns using lines (such as zig-zag, curved, swirly etc.). Again, make sure the lines touch the edges of the triange (where the fold is)
Colour in a pattern starting from the center. Each time you come to a line, you will need to change your colour pattern so for example, in between each letter, is a space that will need a different colour.

Symmetry and pastels
- Directions
_Fold your paper in half either hamburger style or hotdog style. Draw only on one side using closed shapes. You can choose organic freeform shapes or geometrical or combination of the two. Do keep them simple and large. DO use the whole space of the paper letting some of the lines go off the paper. Let some of the lines touch the folded area as well to break up the space. - Now turn your paper over and trace the other side (still keeping it folded). When finished, open it up and decide which way you like the designed turned. The design should be a mirror image (or SYMMETRICAL).
- Use pastels to colour in your paper. Remember to colour in lightly and build up the colour values. Think about places that over lap and might cast a shadow on to the shape/form below?
