Students are working on positive and negative space. They will trace objects on their paper making them touch and go off the paper so that it divides up the negative space. Instead of focusing on the positive space, students will leave the traced objects (positive space) blank, and fill in the negative space with a variety of patterns. A pattern is a principle of design that is a colour, shape, or line that repeats. Try not to do a pattern more than once for each space. For example, if you use stripes in one space do not use stripes for another space or, change the lines to zig zags.
